When you choose adoption in the state of Florida, an expectant woman signs an agreement called an Adoption Plan. You may choose either an adoption agency or attorney to make this agreement with, and at CFSFL.ORG, a caseworker prefers to discuss adoption with you prior to signing this agreement.

Once you agree and sign an Adoption Agreement, adoption professionals can assist you with certain living and maternity expenses, as well as contact the biological father, if known.

However, you might be wondering if you can trust the adoptive family to keep their word when it comes to the agreed-upon details about future communication. The answer is complicated, but working with a reputable adoption agency can give you peace of mind.

Or, if you want to talk to someone in person about what goes into choosing adoption, contact Christian Family Services. We’re a full-service adoption agency who are here to answer your questions and ensure you feel supported. All appointments and resources are free and confidential.

Read on to learn more about what goes into creating an adoption plan and your rights when it comes to enforcing the adoption plan.

How Are Adoption Plans Created?

Adoption is full of options. Caseworkers outline the details regarding what you want to happen throughout the adoption process.

If you’re considering adoption, you will work with an adoption agency to figure out the details you want for your baby. The details you can decide include:

  • The adoptive family
  • Your Hospital Plan
  • How often you want to communicate with the adoptive family and child, and in what ways
  • How involved you want to be in the life of the child

The adoption agency will work closely with you and the adoptive family to make sure your wishes and goals are outlined. Adoptive Families at CFSFL.ORG are expected to be open to communication with future birth families, but the decision on communication depends on what YOU want.  After your baby is delivered, a Communication Agreement is created for you and the adoptive family to sign.

How Are the Adoption Plans Enforced?

Communication Agreements are essentially contact agreements between you, the adoptive family, and the child—but they are usually built on trust. This means the adoptive family can technically break the agreement; and so can you.

However, if an adoptive family breaks the Communication Agreement, the adoption agency will intervene on your behalf to restore the communication plan. If this doesn’t work, there are instances when the courts may intervene to ensure that contact is maintained.
