Mother’s Instincts are Real

Planned or unplanned pregnancy, God has created women in such a way that they experience a unique bond when they give birth to a baby. It doesn’t matter how dysfunctional her life may be, it’s not unusual to observe mothers making the greatest sacrifices for the sake of their child.

Women with unplanned pregnancies make hard choices

Recently a mom gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. For some reason that will forever be unknown to us, for the safety of her daughter, she surrendered her newborn baby under the Florida Safe Haven Act. We don’t know if it was her lifestyle or environment that caused her to fear for her daughter. We don’t know if she felt threatened in some way for herself and/or her baby by the baby’s father. What would cause a mother to go to such drastic lengths for a baby? We don’t know what was driving that protective instinct to go to great measures to protect and provide the best for the baby, but it was real.

Mothers with unplanned pregnancies in history made hard choices

Remember the story of Jochebed—the mother of Moses? When she believed that her son was in the gravest of danger as a young baby, she placed him in a “basket” and sent it down the river!

It doesn’t matter that Moses’ sister was watching from the bank. There were known crocodiles and other dangers lurking in the waters. Doesn’t matter that this no doubt scared her to death and broke her heart. She did what she believed was in the best interest of her child. She wanted him to grow up, even with another family, and have a life useful to God.
