Have you discovered an unplanned pregnancy?
This news can be a difficult and stressful time for a woman, and a man. Both of you have emotions running high, and yours may be due to hormone changes in your body.
You may not have the same experience as other women, but you may experience one or more strong emotions, common in life, but more urgent at this time.
Caseworkers at CFS hope to give you ways to process your emotions so they do not overwhelm you. You do not have to be alone with these emotions! Read on and consider how you can work through your emotions.
Denial
It is not uncommon to attempt to avoid the reality of “I’m pregnant.” For some expectant mothers, this denial can last all the way up to birth! You may hope the pregnancy isn’t real or that you are not growing a baby inside your own body. Some women “feel” the movements of the unborn child and think they have a stomach bug. Others have had side effects of pregnancy, such as no periods, or constipation. One CFS Birth Mom took a huge dose of laxatives and later delivered her child in the bathroom!
Women who know they have an unplanned pregnancy have the opportunity to discuss what to do about their pregnancy with CFS Caseworkers. No judgement. We will meet you where you feel most comfortable.
CFS Caseworkers will explain what termination of the pregnancy, parenting the child, or placing the child for adoption may be like. Caseworkers from CFS minister to expectant women during and after an unplanned pregnancy. We listen to what you want for this baby and for yourself.
Fear
Women with unplanned pregnancies, at times, may be afraid. Those first months, some women are so sick and unable to get to work on time-some are afraid of losing a job, or missing classes and getting behind in school. Some women may fear the opinions of family, friends, or even church members. The fear of talking to a boyfriend about his baby, or recognizing you don’t know the name of that one night stand you had! Then there is getting medical help during the pregnancy and wondering how you can pay for it.
While our name doesn’t tell you this, CFS is ready to help you as you navigate family, and the man in your life, as you think about the opportunities for your pregnancy. CFS Caseworkers listen to your fears, discuss ways to speak with others about the unplanned pregnancy, and provide emotional support in person, by phone or text. We can assist you with applying for pregnancy medicaid or payment to your physician for care.
