It was an amazing night, but now you are concerned. Women realize a pregnancy can result from unprotected sex. However, there are other symptoms you may want to look out for besides an unplanned pregnancy. Don’t be frightened, be informed about symptoms and where to find help!
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD) are caused by sexually transmitted infections (STI) (details from the Mayo Clinic). A man or woman may not have visible signs or symptoms and have an STI. The human papillomavirus (HPV) is a factor in some types of cancer (details from the CDC).
If an over-the-counter pregnancy test is positive, consider getting tested for an STI. Did you know both tests can be done for free at a pregnancy help center near you? Such places are In Gainesville or the surrounding areas, Jacksonville and surrounding communities, Ocala, Tallahassee and the surrounding areas, all the way to southwest Florida! Each facility provides confidentiality and welcomes you and your partner for testing.
If the pregnancy test is positive, you can consider your options. You can parent, either with the support of your family or your partner, or you can place your child for adoption. Either is a parenting choice only you can make. In either situation, sign up for assistance with prenatal care.
When a woman with an unplanned pregnancy reaches out to Christian Family Services (CFS) we are here for you. A CFS caseworker will discuss all the options available to you and your baby. If you parent, caseworkers will find community resources for you to use. If you choose adoption, caseworkers will provide you as much information as possible about adoption. This is a huge decision! Whether you parent or choose to place your child for adoption, we want you to be informed and choose for yourself. No judgment. No pressure.
