A note from a Birth Mom to CFS Caseworkers and the value of continued relationship

Hi Debbie (and Jerry:),

Haven’t talked to you in a little while and just wanted to write and see how you both are doing. I’ve been busy working hard at my new job and I’ve already been promoted to the technical department and am loving the work (and the great benefits!). I recently went up to Tallahassee to visit “C” (birth father of my child).  A national promotions manager picked up his band. They just finished 50 hours of recording at a studio and will have a seven-song album mastered. It will be ready for the airwaves within a month or so-very exciting!

I’ve been working on putting together a scrapbook for our (birth) son’s second birthday.  Though I didn’t quite finish it in time for the actual date, it should be done soon. “C” and I used some of the time in Tallahassee to pick out things together at a scrapbooking store and collect pictures of his life and us to put in the scrapbook. I can’t wait to get it finished and see everything all together!  I will let you know when it’s finished.

Hopefully we can get together in Gainesville or Tampa and have lunch and catch up at that point.

During the holiday season, the office of CFS exchanged letters, gifts and packages between and for our clients.  There were gifts and letters from Birth Grandparents to their Grandchild.  Other cards and letters were from Birth Parents to their daughter or son.  Adoptive Families sent photos and letters to the Birth Mother of their child. Whether an expectant mother chose an open adoption or a closed adoption, CFS continues to serve as the link between birth and adoptive families for the benefit of the baby, the growing child, that they share.

There were many updates from families who shared photos. CFS caseworkers enjoyed the photos, many times seeing the face of a woman who we worked with during an unplanned pregnancy.  We recall the events of our Birth Mom’s, the pregnancy help CFS was able to give during a difficult time in her life, and how the newborn adoption affected all concerned. 

From the phone call of a woman stating “I’m pregnant,” to meeting with her in a place of her choosing, this is what we do, as one of the adoption agencies in Florida.

Just like Dora, the Birth Mother letter we began with, CFS will be there for Birth Families to give pregnancy help during a newborn adoption.  Dora, whose son is now 14, continues to have contact with CFS.  Adoption in Florida can look different when infants for adoption are placed with families.  CFS Caseworkers believe many Birth Families, their children, and Adoptive Families alike value and benefit from exchanging updates. It’s all about relationships at CFS!
